Introduced in 2017, the Ferrari 812 Superfast succeeded the F12 Berlinetta as Maranello’s flagship front-engine V-12 grand tourer. Powered by a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V-12 producing 830 PS, it became Ferrari’s most powerful series-production model to date. In an era increasingly dominated by turbocharging and hybridization, the 812 reaffirmed the marque’s commitment to the 12-cylinder engine.

Unveiled in 2021, the 812 Competizione continued the distinguished lineage of front-engine V-12 special-series Ferraris that included the 599 GTO and F12 TdF. Developed as the ultimate expression of the 812 Berlinetta, it combined a higher-revving engine with extensive aerodynamic, chassis, and mechanical revisions. Production was limited to 999 examples, intended for Ferrari’s most dedicated collectors.

Compared with the standard 812 Superfast, the Competizione featured substantially revised bodywork designed to improve cooling, manage airflow, and increase downforce. A carbon fibre blade across the bonnet, a prominent front splitter, and an enlarged rear diffuser gave the car a purposeful appearance. Its most distinctive feature was an aluminum panel replacing the rear window, incorporating vortex generators that worked with the rear spoiler to increase downforce. Carbon fibre components, reduced sound insulation, and a lithium-ion battery contributed to a weight reduction of approximately 38 kg.

At its heart was an extensively reworked 6.5-litre V-12 developing 830 PS at 9,250 rpm and 692 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. Titanium connecting rods, redesigned pistons, revised valve actuation, and numerous friction-reduction measures enabled a remarkable 9,500 rpm redline, the highest yet achieved by a Ferrari road-car engine. A revised exhaust system incorporated additional resonators to preserve the V-12’s distinctive voice despite the introduction of a gasoline particulate filter.

A recalibrated seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle provided faster shifts, while stiffer suspension and Ferrari’s Side Slip Control 7.0 helped translate the additional performance into greater capability on the circuit. Particularly significant was Passo Corto Virtuale 3.0, the latest evolution of Ferrari’s Virtual Short Wheelbase system. Its rear-wheel steering actuators operated independently, allowing different steering angles at each rear wheel to enhance agility and stability.

Ferrari quoted acceleration from 0–100 km/h in 2.85 seconds and 0–200 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with a maximum speed exceeding 340 km/h. Yet contemporary praise extended beyond these formidable figures to the car’s precision and unexpectedly approachable handling.

Writing in CAR magazine’s November 2021 review, Ben Barry observed: “But behind the wheel it feels entirely natural, behaves in a linear way and has an unexpectedly agile, pure and light feel for a car that could be a bit clunky and unhappy on a circuit.” His concluding assessment captured its distinctive appeal: “But what a car, simultaneously anachronistic and state-of-the-art.” Combining limited production, sophisticated chassis engineering, and an extraordinary V-12, the 812 Competizione stands among the most highly developed expressions of Ferrari’s front-engine berlinetta tradition.

Delivered in December 2023 via Garage Niki Hasler AG in Basel, Switzerland, this 812 Competizione is particularly striking in Grigio Competizione (Competition Grey) over Nero (Black, 9440) Alcantara interior. Its factory personalization plaque documents an extensive specification centered upon a contrasting yellow and Nero livery, yellow brake calipers, yellow rev counter, and yellow interior stitching and details.

The configuration makes especially liberal use of carbon fibre, including the air box, engine covers, rear diffuser, front air intakes, under-door covers, inner door handles, instrument cover, parcel shelf, center console, dashboard inserts, and carbon fibre wheels. Further equipment includes larger-size checkered racing seats, passenger display, front and rear parking cameras, front-axle lift, adaptive headlights, Apple CarPlay, and a high-power audio system. Particularly unusual Special Equipment includes F1-driver signatures applied in silver marker to the carbon fibre engine compartment, together with French and Italian flag motifs incorporated into the carbon fibre rear crossmember.

Accompanied by its Ferrari Classiche Yellow Book for special-series vehicles, remaining under factory warranty until 1 October 2027, and showing just 281 km at the time of cataloguing, this extraordinarily low-mileage Competizione presents in a condition commensurate with its limited use. Combining a sophisticated appearance, an unusually detailed factory specification, and one of the highest-revving road-going V-12 engines Ferrari has ever produced, it is a compelling example of the marque’s ultimate evolution of the naturally aspirated front-engine berlinetta.
