Lot Essay
This elegant vase is reminiscent of the French fashion adopted by marchands-merciers such as English dealer Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845). Baldock established his Hanway Street business around 1805, initially trading 'china and glass' and throughout the first quarter of the 19th century he expanded his focus to include 18th century French and English objets de luxe and Chinese export porcelain. The employment of celadon porcelain mounted in rococo mounts surmounted by 'draco finial' handles relates to vases attributed to Baldock including one sold Christie's London, 15 April 1999, lot 31 and another sold Christie's New York, 8 April 2025, lot 140.
