Lot Essay

The giltwood console’s carved structure, with its scrolling supports and pierced apron flanked by palm leaves, is stylistically comparable to consoles documented as the work of the Société pour les Bâtiments du roi, possibly associated with André and Mathieu Legoupil. It relates to one in the Louvre, which comes from the Château de Bercy, dated from around 1713, and is attributed to André and Mathieu Legoupil (OA 5088).
