Harry SSAFA Ted started his adventures by attending the D-Day Commemorations in Portsmouth and the Royal Garden Party at Southwick House. He then boarded the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hurricane to review the Fleet before switching to the Lancaster for the poppy drop over MV Canberra in mid-Channel, and Arrowmanches.
Harry went on Operation Warden as part of a detachment of Harriers to Incirlik to patrol over Southern Turkey and Northern Iraq.
He joined the Tri-National Training Establishment (TTTE) at RAF Cottesmore to fly Tornado's. There are three nationalities based there - the Germans, the Italians and the Royal Air Force. Harry was looked after by an Italian pilot.
Flying helicopters was part of his training at RAF Odiham the RAF's helicopter base. He flew a Chinook from 7Sqn and a Puma from 33 Sqn. he also helped with paperwork.
He visited the International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford and met some very important people. His Majesty King Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan agreed to receive him, and he told them all about SSAFA. In return they signed his book and had a photograph taken with him.
He also met the Grasshoppers, a Helicopter Display team from Holland, and the Suisse Patrouille, an Aerbatic Display Team who fly a spectacular sequence in Hunters. Then he met the crew of the Russian Bear Aircraft.
Harry joined up with the Red Arrows Display Team at the Franborough Air Show, just before their opening display.
Harry visited Washington, USA flying on a VC-10 from Brize Norton. The highlights of his visit was a visit to the Pentagon Press Office where he met the Public Relations Staff for the US Air Force.
Another Display Team Harry joined up with was The Falcons, the Parachute Display Team. The flew in a Hercules to the drop zone, and Harry jumped as number 5 in the stack.
Before leaving the Royal Air Force, Harry met Sir Michael Graydon and the Air Board.
The Air Board were so impressed with Harry SSAFA Ted's flying experience that they gave him the rank of Flying Officer, RAF.
On leaving the RAF Harry was presented with a Record of Service, and the Red Arrows gave him a specially made Red Arrows Flying Helmet.
