The combs were probably worn in the hair as ornaments. A close parallel in the British Museum was found at Qasr Ibrim in lower Nubia.

TWO LATE COPTIC WOODEN COMBS, each of waisted form with eight long tapering prongs and a row of smaller teeth above, decorated with horizontal ribs and concentric dotted circles between -- 7½in. (19cm.) long max., 12th-14th Century A.D. (2)
