JOHN CORBET ANDERSON
Adams [(Sketches at Lord's No. 5)]
tinted lithograph by and after Corbet Anderson, [London: published by the artist, Kingsland, and R. Dark, Lord's Ground, July 22nd 1850], printed by Hullmandel and Walton, 340 x 235mm. (13½ x 9¼in.), walnut frame.
Literature
Down & West 5, pp. 54-55 (reproducing a hand-coloured version). Thomas Miles Adams (1813-94) was a Kent player in the county's most glorious days, a "punishing" if sometimes chancey hitter, and straight if guileless bowler, proud of his manly appearance. He is seen at the wicket, a dominant figure against the skyline, dwarfing the solitary angler in the middle distance.
