Lot Essay

Clock cases embellished with champlevé enamel were particularly popular in the Export markets of China and Japan, both for local clientele and also no doubt for Westerners requiring exotic decoration appropriate to their surroundings. The vitality of the Eastern Export trade is well demonstrated by the number of retail outlets on the dial of the present clock.
