The hood with gilt-brass flowerhead capped swan-neck pediment flanking a ball and spire finial, reeded panels below the cornice, spiral-twist columns and glazed side panels, breakarch trunk door above plain plinth with wavy apron, the associated brass dial with cherub and coronet spandrels, disc to the arch inscribed Tempus Fugit, the 2¾in. (7cm.) wide chapter ring signed Jno. Gavelle London, matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, date aperture and ringed winding holes, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement; associated, case circa 1780, dial and movement circa 1720
