A Halberd Of The French Royal Swiss Guard
Late 17th Century
The large head with triangular axe-blade with wavy sides and triple flukes, the outer two wavy, the spike with waved edges and strong central ridge, chiselled in relief on each face between the axe and the flukes a sun in splendour with traces of gilding, tapering faceted socket incised with the serial number 48 and with a small crossbar, and two side-straps (one shortened), on later wooden staff
