A Halberd Of The Bodyguard Of The Elector Christian II Of Saxony
German, Circa 1600 (probably 1602)
The head with flat axe-blade of flattened-S shape, beak-shaped fluke (replaced), top spike of elongated triangular shape with strong medial ridge, and tapering socket, etched with central panels of foliated strapwork against a blackened dotted ground and on each face of the axe-blade respectively the arms of Saxony and of the Archmarshalship of the Holy Roman Empire, on later wooden staff and separate side-straps
