signed on the lacquered dial J Salleron Rue du Pont-de-Lodi, No. 1 Paris, the compass with silvered scale, the needle on jewelled pivot with clamp, the horizontal circle with finely divided scale, twin verniers, tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamp, the limb with lead compensating weight enclosed in a drum-shaped compartment, the vertical circle with finely divided scale, two verniers, tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamp, the limb with telescope with draw-tube focusing and mounted with a graduated bubble level, on adjustable three-screw tripod stand, the horizontal circle -- 6¾in. (17.2cm.) dia., overall width -- 11½in. (29.2cm.)
