The high-shouldered body of compressed section with end curled to one side and ending in a point, enamelled overall with aubergine and iron-red lotus issuing from a dense scroll amid green and combed iron-red leaves and curled tendrils, the neck encircled with a key-fret border below the lipped rim, losses to enamel

The enamelled decoration reserved on a black ground can be compared to that on group of similarly decorated Yongzheng-marked dishes including an example in the Hong Kong Museum, included in their exhibition, The Wonder of the Potter's Palette, 1984, Catalogue, no. 52; one in the Victoria and Albert Museum illustrated by Rose Kerr, Chinese Ceramics, Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty, pl. 23; a pair included in the Min Chiu Society exhibition, An Anthology of Chinese Ceramics, Hong Kong, 1980, Catalogue, no. 131; another pair sold in these Rooms, 18 March 1991, lot 548; and a pair sold in our New York Rooms, 3 December 1991, lot 336.
