Lot Essay

Thomas Shearer's design for this pattern of 'serpentine front..... sideboard' top on hermed legs, featured in The Cabinet-Maker's London Book of Prices, 1788, pl. 4.

A closely related side table, with patera-enriched corners and stop-fluted legs, was sold by a West Coast collector, Christie's New York, 12 October 1991, lot 170.
