Each with a shaped toprail carved with swagged husks and centred by a patera, above a pierced vase-shaped splat centred by an urn below an anthemion, above a padded serpentine-fronted seat covered in green velvet, on square tapering channelled legs joined by chamfered H-shaped stretchers, minor restorations (2)

Lot Essay

The palm-flowered splats on these chairs beneath pearl-strung and serpentine-arched crests relate to a chair acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1907 (R. Edwards, History of the English Chair, London, 1950, fig. 93).
A related chair was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 14 July 1994, lot 384.
