Lot Essay

Jean-Bernard Sauvage struck his mark in 1762 and was last recorded in 1791. In 1784, he was fined for having left open the door of his shop at the place Dauphine during the night.
Serge Grandjean (Les tabatières du musée du Louvre, Paris, 1981, p. 158) illustrates two boxes by Sauvage and notes that only few snuff-boxes by Sauvage have survived.
