A Sèvres (hard paste) cylindrical coffee-can and saucer (Gobelet litron et soucoupe)
1787, gilt interlaced L marks flanked by date letters KK above painter's mark VT of Mme. Marie-Anne Gérard, incised hu and script V to can, X and script G to saucer
The can painted en grisaille with a ewe suckling a lamb in a wooded landscape within an oval gilt ciselé lapped-coin cartouche, flanked by richly coloured scrolling foliage, below a band of gilt dots alternating in size, the saucer with a central gilt-edged medallion with a stylised flowerhead, the border similarly decorated with two gilt-edged cartouches with sheep, flanked by scrolling foliage divided by central urns, gilt line rims (crack and associated very small chip to lower terminal of handle)

Lot Essay

Marie-Anne Gérard (née Vautrin, married 1782), painter and gilder active 1775-1802.

The en grisaille painting most probably by Georges Lamprecht, painter of animals at Sèvres from 1785-87.
