NORTH INDIA, LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY
The tapering double-edged recurved watered steel blade with pronounced medial ridge, the mutton-fat pistol-hilt grip with serrated leaves below rising to a poppy flowerhead with further smaller poppy sprays above, the upper terminal encircled by similar poppy sprays around a large single flowerhead, the upper spine with a small cypress tree, the green velvet-covered sheath with silver-gilt mounts above and below each carved and engraved with scrolling tendrils issuing flowerheads on a ring-matted ground
