A LATE SAFAVID DAGGER
PERSIA, EARLY 18TH CENTURY
With slightly curved tapering watered steel blade, the upper edge with a flat spine along half the length, then changing to a cutting edge, the medial ridge beginning in a panel of very finely engraved scrolling flowering plants forming a cartouche with pendants and gold outline, the spine carved and partly gold inlaid with arabesques, the oval section handle with flat spine and downturned upper terminal, the spine decorated with gold damascened meandering floral tendrils, faced with rounded gilt-iron panels each side, later silver mounted red cloth covered wooden sheath, slight loss at juncture of blade and hilt, hilt crudely re-assembled
