The breakfront brèche violette marble top with a moulded edge, above three frieze drawers, above a central shaped panel door with a ribboned foliate trophy inlay, the interior with an adjustable shelf, flanked by parquetry panels, the sides each with a shaped parquetry panel, on acanthus-cast scroll feet

Lot Essay

This commode's prototype was supplied in the late 1770s by Jean-henri Riesener (mâitre ébéniste 1768). One delivered to Versailles in 1776 was later sold from the collection of the 12th Duke of Hamilton's sale in these rooms, 17th June 1882, lot 528.
