Oblong 4° (244 x 322mm). Engraved title in Italian with vignette by Bolt after Kinninger, two letterpress titles in German, letterpress music, text in German and Italian. (Engraved title torn with slight loss, occasional spotting, 87.1 and 87.2 with neatly repaired tear, some leaves shaved with occasional loss of signature.) Contemporary green-stained vellum, red morocco label on the flat spine (worn). Provenance: F. Weber (signature); William Penson, Edinburgh (c.1776-c.1829, music teacher, musical director of the Theatre Royal, first secretary of the Edinburgh Professional Siciety of Musicians, signatures and inscription dated 1819).

FIRST EDITION OF THE FULL SCORE, AND THE FIRST FULL SCORE OF ANY OF MOZART'S OPERAS TO BE PUBLISHED. It was first performed in Prague on 29 October 1787 and was an immediate success: "On Mozart's appearance in the orchestra he was greeted with enthusiastic applause and a triple flourish of trumpets, and the opera was accompanied from beginning to end with rapturous marks of approval": Grove (1975) vol.
