The panelled rectangular ends with a frieze of alternating floral patera and palmette motifs, flanked by tapered female herms above ebonised metal foliate trails joined by later panelled rails applied with conforming motifs, on paw feet, restorations and replacements, several ebonised ornaments replaced in resin, together with the two original shorter rails lacking their applied decoration, the ends originally joined by a further rail, lacking mattress and boxspring, with paper label 'Depot de bagages 05,949 etiquette a coller sur le colis', restorations

Lot Essay

With its bronzed Grecian carved enrichments and bold monopodiae, this lit reflects the influence of Bernard Molitor, who was elected maître in 1787. A closely related Directoire bed was sold anonymously at Sotheby's Monaco, 15 June 1981, lot 576.
