with golden mohair head and paws, deep amber and black glass eyes, centre seam, clipped snout, black stitched nose and mouth, unjointed, dressed in fixed brown tunic and fixed brown linen card lined shoes --16in. (41cm.) tall, circa 1938, probably Merrythought (small repair to left shoulder)

Lot Essay

It is interesting to see the similarity between this bear and the Merrythought Bare Bingie, circa 1931 and the Bingie Guardsman, 1933-38. This bear is also very probably Merrythought, substituting a mohair body with war-time material when mohair was scarse and expensive.
