of George III style, the cartouche shaped padded back and seat upholstered in floral cut velvet, the frame with five feather cresting and carved with bellflowers with an egg-and-dart apron, on cabriole legs headed with Indian masks, on square palmette feet, one leg with an old repaired break

Lot Essay

The design of this chair is that of the "Cannons" suite attributed to James Moore, which is now at Houghton, Norfolk, but which was almost certainly supplied to the first Duke of Chandos for Cannons, Middlesex. The suite was first illustrated by Percy Macquoid in 1906.
