Half-title, titlepage in red and black with engraved vignette emblem of the Accademia della Crusca, with proverb in Arabic type, 10 full-page unnumbered engravings, 29 numbered plates (no.29 an extra plate), 2 small text engravings. First blank leaf present. (Half-title and title lightly foxed). Contemporary pastepaper boards, spine covered in gray-blue paper, ENTIRELY UNTRIMMED (several small tears to spine, board slightly edges chipped).

FIRST EDITION, A FINE, UNTRIMMED COPY IN ORIGINAL BINDING, WITH THE RARE EXTRA PLATE not present in most copies (no. 29, a double-page engraving). "The twenty-ninth plate is engraved in a different style from the others. Because it appears in relatively few copies, the plate may have been added as an afterthought to the copies remaining after the greater part of the edition had been sold" (Norman).
