Lot Essay

See Margarete Oppenheim Collection; Julius Bhler, Munich, 1936, lot no. 279, Tafel 29 for a very similar puce-scale box, described in the catalogue as with the interior of the cover painted with a view of a city but illustarted with the top closed. Also see an Anon. sale, Christie's, Geneva, 12 May 1980, lot 198; and Alex Heine Porcelaens-Tabatiren, Coppenhagen, 1937, p. 69 and 71, nr. 75 for similar puce-scale boxes painted with the same view as the present example.
