The cover finely painted with a view of Albrechtsburg from the far side of the river Elbe, the sides en grisaille with a neo-classical portrait head reserved on the reddish-brown ground between winged sphinxes, their tails extending into foliate scrolls, the bottom similarly painted with with a radiant sun, the interior of the cover en grisaille in the style of Angelica Kauffman with a child taking leave of his mother
