Lot Essay

The power of fashion and it's influence on society at the time is reflected in the critical sneer on one woman's face as she looks back over her shoulder at another passing. In several of Lartigue's images of women promenading along the streets of Paris the admiration he has for women, transformed by fashion into elegant beings is evident, while at the same time these women are presented as vulnerable victims.
