French, circa 1780/1785, with the restricted warranty mark for gold, Paris, 1819-1838, other marks rubbed
Circular black box, the independent cover set with a circular portrait miniature depicting a young Lady wearing a lavender blue dress and gold-coloured scarf, white silk ribbon and flowers in her curly fair hair, framed by a circle of stylized acanthus leaves, the borders of cover and base applied with pierced gold mounts stamped with twisted bands of laurel leaves, the base centred by an engraved and pierced gold rosette of a swirling scroll bordered by a garland of twisted laurel leaves
