Circular green composition box, the independent cover centred by an oval portrait miniature by Louis Sicardi depicting a young Lady wearing a white silk gown with light-blue ribbon, her upswept curly powdered hair tied with a matching bandeau, framed by a pierced rise-cut diamond-set gold and silver-gilt border, the lid, sides and base encrusted with vertical wavy and straight gold piqué posé stripes, the borders set with reeded gold mounts

Lot Essay

Louis Sicardi (1743-1825), one of the most celebrated French miniaturists of the late 18th Century, painted numerous portraits of King Louis XVI which were mounted on jewelled presentations gold snuff-boxes distributed as diplomatic gifts by the service des présents du Roi. The present miniature is a typical specimen of his most inspired period of the early 1780s.
