The pierced scroll tripod of the base probably derives ultimately from a design for a 'dejuné' table in George Smith, A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1808, pl. 82. A variation with central fluted column was published by J. Taylor, in The Upholsterer's and Cabinet-Maker's Pocket Assistant, 1850, reproduced in E.T. Joy, ed., Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1977, p. 500.
