Further details
The identical twins Mike and Doug Starn explore, among many themes in their work, concepts of time and chaos that are played out in organic systems. Often these topics are raised through depictions of nature where they identify the poetic tensions between the life cycle residing. This present lot is such an example. The distressed appearance of the photograph is an intentional action to create not simply imagery in their work, but sculptural form, pushing the boundaries of expected photographic appearance. The bends, folds and tears in the work highlights the impermanence of beauty and create an armature for the image.
