Now and Then | Illustrations by Kurt Ard

Sale Overview
Christie’s is proud to present Now and Then | Illustrations by Kurt Ard, a private selling exhibition dedicated to the charming and comical paintings of Kurt Ard. The exhibition will showcase a variety of the artist’s magazine illustrations from his family’s own archive, from delightful scenes of childhood to witty commentaries on daily life.
Born in 1925 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Kurt Ard became a household name in the 1950s and 60s, with his work gracing the covers of numerous publications internationally, including The Saturday Evening Post, Panorama, Allers, Familie Journal, and Hörzu. Finding inspiration in the everyday, the artist often used his wife and children or even people he encountered on the street as models.
The exhibition features thirteen illustrations from throughout Ard’s career, demonstrating his delightful style and endearing humor. The paintings will be on view at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from 12-17 of April, and afterwards can be viewed by appointment through May 31.
