Fine & Rare Wines Online: Los Angeles Edition

Resumen de la venta

Christie’s Wine & Spirits Department in the Americas is pleased to present its October 2026 Los Angeles auction, a sale of remarkable breadth and maturity drawn from a distinguished procession of significant cellars. This sale’s riches range from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, and Domaine d’Auvenay at the summit of Burgundy to extended verticals of the Bordeaux first growths, decades of California’s benchmark Cabernets, a prime cross-section of Barolo and Barbaresco, and much more. Bottles as venerable as Lafite Rothschild 1934 share the catalogue with releases as youthful as Screaming Eagle 2022. The sale will open for bidding on 27 October and conclude on 10 November.

The Burgundy herein is of the highest order. Pride of place belongs to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, conjugated across all six of its red Grands Crus from 1995 – Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Grands Echézeaux, and Echézeaux – and accompanied by magnums of La Tâche, Grands Echézeaux, and Romanée-Saint-Vivant from 1988, further examples from 1993, and four Grands Crus from the storied 1978 harvest. From the famously exacting Lalou Bize-Leroy come two superlative rarities: five bottles each of Domaine Leroy Romanée-Saint-Vivant 1990 and Domaine d’Auvenay Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1990, both from the early years of her two estates, with Leroy’s Corton-Charlemagne 1992 alongside. Drouhin’s Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche 1985 and Bonneau du Martray’s Corton-Charlemagne from 1973 and 1978 recall the age when great white Burgundy was laid down without a second thought.

Bordeaux is offered at archival depth. Château Lafite Rothschild runs unbroken from 1993 to 2004, with Mouton Rothschild nearly so, and both are offered in quantity from 1998 to 2003, including nine bottles of the acclaimed 2000 in its gold-enameled millennium attire. A double-magnum of Lafite 1996 and a Melchior of Beychevelle 2014 provide large-format panache. And the twentieth century answers roll call: Lafite 1934; Latour 1959 and 1962; Margaux 1961; Petrus 1952, 1971, 1975, 1978, and 1990; ten bottles of Cheval Blanc 1982; and Mouton 1982. La Mission Haut-Brion spans two decades, crowned by the legendary 1989, amid Haut-Brion, Trotanoy, Palmer, and Lynch-Bages in abundance. Château d’Yquem 1976 and 1983 are a dulcet interlude.

California is collected with equal devotion. Ridge Monte Bello, whose 1971 triumphed at the thirtieth-anniversary restaging of the Judgment of Paris, appears in force, including every vintage from 2007 to 2019; Spottswoode contributes twenty-three consecutive harvests, 1986 to 2008; Dunn Howell Mountain, only unfurling with age, is held by the dozen in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2004; and Dalla Valle is complete from 1995 to 2005. Around them gather Philip Togni, Mayacamas, Harlan Estate, Sine Qua Non, and Screaming Eagle with its second wine, The Flight. Napa’s heritage is equally well served by Charles Krug Vintage Selection 1969, Robert Mondavi 1969 and 1970 in magnum, Inglenook 1971, BV’s Georges de Latour Private Reserve, Heitz Martha’s Vineyard – including seventeen bottles of the 1990 – and Dominus from its inaugural 1983 vintage. Jonata and The Hilt, Screaming Eagle’s Santa Barbara County siblings, carry the story south; Quilceda Creek and Leonetti carry it north.

Piedmont fields both sides of its long but profitable grapple between tradition and modernity. Three bottles of Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 1999, each dressed in one of Bartolo’s own art labels – the beloved “No Barrique, No Berlusconi” among them – are joined by Giuseppe Rinaldi’s Brunate-Le Coste 2001 and Cannubi San Lorenzo-Ravera 2007; a concentration of the great 2010 Barolo vintage from Sandrone, Scavino, and Vietti; five of Produttori del Barbaresco’s single-vineyard Riservas from 2011; and Gaja’s Sorì Tildìn from 1986 and 1990. Champagne lovers will find Salon 1982, Krug 1982 and 1985, and Dom Pérignon 1964 and 1971, while Egon Müller’s Scharzhofberger 1981 and a run of S.A. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr pay tribute to the majesty of the Mosel.

Whether completing a vertical, laying down for the future, or seeking a mature bottle for the table, collectors will find this an auction of rare generosity. Bidding opens 27 October and concludes 10 November. Join us in celebrating 60 years of Christie’s Wine & Spirits.
