Herbert Lust was a collector, scholar and friend to some of the most important artists of the 20th century. His first encounter with Alberto Giacometti in Paris sparked a lifelong passion for art. Over the course of more than five decades, Lust assembled an extraordinary collection spanning the European avant-garde and American art, with works by Giacometti, Hans Bellmer, Yves Tanguy, Frank Stella and Robert Indiana, among others. Deeply personal as well as scholarly, the collection reflects Lust’s sustained engagement with the artists he collected and, often, befriended.
