Following the spectacular Generations of Vision: The Durand-Ruel Collection sale, the much-anticipated Evening Sale of 20th and 21st Century Art on 22 October promises to carry Paris’s exhilarating sale week to new heights. It is a particularly exciting moment for Christie’s worldwide, as the evening also marks the 25th anniversary of Thinking Italian—a landmark celebration showcasing masterpieces by the towering figures of 20th-Century Italian art, including Lucio Fontana, Amedeo Modigliani, Alighiero Boetti and Giorgio de Chirico, as well as a special selection of Arte Povera works from the prestigious Sonnabend Collection.

Bringing together an extraordinary constellation of artistic giants—from Gustave Caillebotte to Jean Dubuffet, Auguste Rodin to Jeff Koons, Frantisek Kupka to Georges Mathieu, and Edgar Degas to Pierre Soulages—the sale presents an exceptional panorama of modern and contemporary art. With works drawn from the prestigious Spencer and Marlene Hays Collection, the Antonio Homem Sonnabend Collection, and a scintillating painting by Paul Signac from the Radiant Modernism collection, alongside other distinguished collections, this season at Christie’s promises to be a true highlight of the Paris Art Basel week.

The sale is further enriched by an exceptional selection of 20th-century design, featuring the whimsical ‘Singerie’ bed by Claude Lalanne and a striking table by Carlo Mollino. Adding an extraordinary historical dimension to the offering is a remarkable Kongo nkisi statue, formerly part of the distinguished collection of Félix Fénéon.
