On 27 October, the ‘Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy’ auction will present an exquisite selection of rare and important works spanning centuries of Chinese artistic achievement. The sale is led by an album of twelve leaves Flowers and Birds by Bada Shanren from a distinguished American private collection, and Pine Trees and Calligraphy by Shen Zhou formerly from the Qing Dynasty imperial collection also published in the imperial catalogue Shiqu Baoji. 

Highlights include Poem in Running Script by Wen Zhengming, Six Verses in Cursive Script by Wang Duo, Poems for Emperor Qianlong’s Eightieth Birthday Celebration by Peng Yuanrui, and the remarkable Yuan dynasty masterpiece Birds and Flowers by Wang Liben.

Carmen Shek Cerne serves as Head of Department and Senior Specialist in the Chinese Paintings Department in Hong Kong. She joined Christie's in 2009 as part of the Associate Specialist Training Program. As part of the team Carmen focuses on client advisory and business getting in Hong Kong and overseas; she is also responsible for research and catalogue production. Prior to joining Christie's Carmen was Assistant Curator at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum at the time when the museum first opened its doors to the public in 2005. Carmen has lived in Italy and the UK, and she graduated from University College London with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ancient History and Social Anthropology.
