A black stone stele of Padmapani
Northeastern India, Pala period, 11th/12th century
Seated in lalitasana with his pendant foot resting on a diminutive lotus, his right hand in varadamudra, wearing a short dhoti with elegantly cascading folds, the face with serene expression flanked by ornate earrings and surmounted by a conical headdress, flanked by lotuses blossoming at the shoulders and attendant figures and surrounded by seated Buddhas, with kneeling devotees at the base
