Enamelled at the centre with Dutch countryfolk seated at a table beneath a tree, two playing cards, a third watching them and the fourth embracing a maiden who is holding a pitcher of wine, a figure stands to the left smoking a pipe, the foreground with strutting chickens, all below two narrow gilt and grisaille bands in the well and a du Paquier-style border, minor chips

The scene copies an engraving after 'Fêtes Champêtre' by David Teniers. Services with this design were made in various palettes and more rarely as a design on Canton enamel (see lot 19). A pair of similarly decorated plates from the Dr Anton C. R. Dreesmann Collection was sold in these Rooms, 10 April 2002, lot 428.
