A CELADON JADE PENDANT, LATE EASTERN ZHOU (770-221BC)
the curving pendant of flattened form with irregular notched edges, one side carved in low relief with interlocking curls and spirals with pencil incised embellishment, a drill hole to one edge; a celadon jade cylindrical ring, carved to the exterior with a band of irregular single and double spirals; two pale green stone beads of rectangular section incised to the surface with simple lines and c-scrolls; a celadon and russet jade plaque, of waisted rectangular form, each end carved with a double ended beast-head motif; a pale celadon and russet circular plaque, decorated to the upper surface with a central roundel of triple spirals surrounded by dense whorls to the centre, Ming or earlier (1368-1644); a deep green jade, almostly completely altered, in the form of a sword pommel, decorated to the upper surface with a central roundel of extremely stylised scrolling avian forms, surrounded by raised scrolled grain-pattern nodes, the underside without decoration, only a slender circular groove to receive the butt of the sword, 3rd Century BC -- The first 1¾in.
