A VIBRANT GREEN JADE BELTHOOK, 16TH/17TH CENTURY
with chemical alteration to the lower terminal, of slender bevelled form with a looped feline dragon head, the lower carved as a stylised flattened beast-head; a pale celadon jade with deep brown streaks modelled as a scabbard chape, of slightly tapering diamond section, carved in high relief to one side with a coiling chilong dragon, the reverse in lower relief with large geometric spirals, three drill holes to the upper flattened edge; a pale green stone scabbard chape with a chemical white alteration to surface, of tapering oval section, carved in low relief to the body with four mirror imaged deep spirals, a curling chilong to the reverse side, a single bore hole to the top edge; a honey brown jade with russet inclusions, in the form of a belt ring, the ring of tear-drop form with cylindrical aperture to the centre, two dragons carved and pierced clinging to this central surface facing opposite directions; and a pale greyish green jade ritual disc with finely carved spirals and curls to both surfaces, with four projecting curls to the four cardinal points -- The First 5¼in.
