The vase is well-potted with a short, slightly flared cylindrical neck, the broad angular shoulder tapering gently to the narrow foot, the exterior with a brilliant purplish-blue glaze

The present vase with its reign mark written in standard script within double-circles suggests a dating to the earlier period of the Qianlong reign, continuing those that were made in the Yongzheng period also with the mark written in standard script such as the example from the N.H.P. Huth Collection, sold at Christie's London, 19 June 2001, lot 56. Two other Qianlong vases with seal script reign marks are known, the first is in the Zhuyuetang Collection and was included in the exhibition, Shimmering Colours, Monochromes of the Yuan to the Qing Periods, Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2005, p. 129, no. 62; and the other was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 27 November 2007, lot 1722.
