A FINELY CARVED CAMEO AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE
OFFICIAL SCHOOL, 1740-1850
The flattened, rounded bottle is carved from honey-colored stone with darker and lighter mottling which is ingeniously utilized to create a scene on one side of a group of five playful monkeys, some holding peaches, in a rocky grotto. The reverse is carved with a eagle perched on the back of a bear below the sun partially concealed by a swirling cloud.
2 5/16 in. (5.8 cm.) high, coral stopper with metal collar and cow horn spoon
