A GEORGE III ENAMELLED GOLD ÉTUI

Flattened quiver-shaped case with hinge at the long rear side, the obverse and reverse with translucent vari-colour basse-taille enamel flowers and leaves on a hatched ground, the bulging repoussé sides and base with c-scrolls, diamond-set pushpiece and wavy mounts, the interior lined with purple plush

According to a handwritten note dated Markstey near Colchester, 13 September 1837:
Queen Charlotte (1744-1818), wife of King George III.
On her death, Sir George Harnage.
Bequested by the latter to Mrs Colonel Harnage.
Given by the latter to George Harnage, son of Sir George Harnage, at Lincoln, in August 1835.
