Lot Essay

Another example of this series, in the Dr Anton Dreesman Collection, sold Christie's, London, 10 April 2002, lot 434. Dr C Jorg has identified the print source: engravings by Amsterdam artist Jan Luiken (1649-1712) that were used in a Lutheran bible. Interestingly the same bible displayed the Martin Luther portrait that also became a subject on Chinese porcelain.
