A LARGE CARVED FURONG SOAPSTONE SEAL
REPUBLIC PERIOD, CYCLICAL BINGCHEN DATE, CORRESPONDING TO 1916 AND OF THE PERIOD
The columnar seal is of square section, surmounted by a recumbent Buddhist lion. One vertical face is inscribed with Bingchen qiu bayue, Xu Xingzhou ke, 'Carved in the Autumn eighth month of the Bingchen year (1916) by Xu Xingzhou'. The base is carved with the two-character, Biya, studio name.
