A LARGE CARVED JICHIMU DISPLAY CABINET, DUOBAOGE
19TH CENTURY
The cabinet is divided into shelves of various shapes and sizes with carved borders, above five drawers carved with stylized interlocking chilong. The two doors of the lower section are carved with confronting chilong suspending beribboned chimes. The whole is raised on square legs joined by a shaped apron carved with writhing chilong.

Lot Essay

Compare the very similar jichimu cabinet dated to the late Qing dynasty, illustrated by Tian Jiaqing, Classic Chinese Furniture of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 1995, p. 235, no. 106. A jichimu cabinet of similar form, with similar carved decoration, was sold at Christie's New York, 20-21 March 2014, lot 2299.
