Details
A LARGE FINELY CARVED JADEITE FIGURE OF MAGU
LATE QING DYNASTY
The Daoist figure is well modelled with a gentle sway to one side, the facial features finely rendered with eyes downcast to give an expression of tranquility. Her hair is swept up in a double topknot. She is shown wearing voluminous robes falling in undulating folds and holding a lingzhi in her hands, standing beside a large praying mantis balanced on gnarled branches growing from rocks and bearing magnolia blossoms. The stone is of a mottled apple-green tone with areas of russet inclusions.
11 7/8 in. (30.2 cm.) high
