A large tixi lacquer bowl, early 15th century
with rounded sides rising to the flaring ridged rim holding the lining in place, supported on a tapering foot with a channeled red lacquered band, the exterior deeply carved through alternate layers of red and black lacquer with two registers of sword-guard shaped scrolling lappets above a border of corresponding upright ruyi heads, the interior with metal lining -- 9 3/8in. (23.8cm.) diam.
