Paris, 1773/1774, maker's mark rubbed including an 'I', with the charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774
Oval semi-translucent blonde tortoiseshell box, the cover and base with tapering piqué posé gold beams radiating from oval central gold panels engraved with poultry and trophies of harvest, the gold mounts stamped with flowers and foliage, the incorporated thumbpiece repoussé and engraved with a garland of flowers between reserves of trelliswork bordered by scrolls
