The rectangular bevelled plate within a frame decorated with stylised flowerheads, arrows and scrolling foliage, the breakfront angles decorated with circular Wedgewood plaques depicting classicaly draped figures, the lower rail centred by a rectangular panel depicting the Triumph of a Roman emperor

Lot Essay

One of the jasper medallions of this elegant mirror features Cupid as 'Oracle' bearing the mask of Truth; a subject that was first produced by Wedgewood in the 1770s (R. Reilly, Wedgwood, vol. I, London, 1989, p. 529, pl. C131).
